BIOGRAPHY
The untraditional athlete, Tyler Jewell gave up snowboarding in the late 1990s in favor of a degree from Boston College. He picked it back up in an effort to make the 2002 U.S. Olympic Team. Jewell didn't make the 2002 squad, but he continued competing with his eyes set on the 2006 Olympic run where he became the only man to represent the U.S. in alpine racing.
UPDATE
Jewell started the 2008-09 season out strong, notching out two World Cup top-10 results and landing a spot on the World Championship team. Sadly, it was a season cut short for Jewell when the racing star hurt his knee in the start gate. He managed to still race at the Championships, which garnered him a 10th-place finish, and he sat the rest of the season out to recuperate.
FIRST TRACKS
He was a skier from before he can remember and then picked up snowboarding one day at the mountain with his older brother. When a college degree beckoned in the 1990s, Jewell opted for the education, but returned to snowboarding in 1999-2000 with refueled Olympic dreams.
