Biographical Information
Tyler Carter is a retired Paralympic alpine skier known for his resilience and dedication to Para sports. Born in Reading, Pennsylvania, and raised in Topton, he had his right leg amputated below the knee as an infant after being born without a fibula. Carter discovered skiing at age eight through the Pennsylvania Center for Adapted Sports, quickly developing a passion for the sport.
He made his Paralympic debut at the Paralympic Winter Games Sochi 2014, competing in the giant slalom. Carter went on to represent Team USA in the Paralympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 and the Paralympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, participating in multiple alpine skiing events. In recognition of his leadership and commitment, he was selected as a flag bearer for Team USA during the Opening Ceremonies of the Paralympic Winter Games Beijing 2022.
Beyond his athletic achievements, Carter is a strong advocate for healthy and active lifestyles. He serves as an Athlete Mentor for Classroom Champions, a nonprofit organization that partners Olympic and Paralympic athletes with students and teachers in underserved communities to inspire and motivate the next generation. Off the slopes, Carter enjoys yoga, hiking and watching movies. He also acts as a motivational speaker, sharing his passions and journey.
