Fawehinmi, the son of a single mother from Nigeria, never imagined he would be the youngest member of the 2012 U.S. Paralympic Team in London
In 2011, a track meet official whose daughter competed at the 2004 Paralympic Games extended his business card and encouraged him to look into the Paralympic
An accomplished high school jumper who was born with shoulder dystocia, Fawehinmi threw out the card and brushed it off until his coach suggested the same opportunity
After doing research, he entered his first Paralympic track and field events at the Desert Challenge Games and months later, qualified for his first Paralympic Games where he finished fifth in triple jump and 10th in long jump in London
Fawehinmi earned an NCAA Division I track an d field scholarship to the University of Texas at Arlington where he studied Kinesiology
