Biographical Information

T.J. Oshie grew up in Everett, Washington, playing both hockey and basketball. When a high school Basketball coach asked him to choose a sport, Oshie handed in his Basketball jersey and turned to hockey full-time. He and his dad moved to Warroad, Minnesota, also known as "Hockeytown USA", to pursue his dreams of being a professional hockey player. In three seasons with Warroad, Oshie experienced nearly as many state titles (two) as losses (five) and was picked by the St. Louis Blues in the first round of the 2005 NHL draft.

Oshie would make his Olympic debut for Team USA at the Olympic Winter Games Sochi 2014. Oshie earned the nickname "T.J. Sochi" after going 4-for-6 in shootout attempts in the U.S.'s preliminary round win over the host country, Russia, in that tournament. The U.S. men's hockey team would finish fourth, after losing to Canada in the semifinals, 1-0, and Finland in the bronze medal game, 5-0.

After the Sochi Winter Games, Oshie was traded from the Blues to the Washington Capitals, where in 2018 helped the Capitals win their first Stanley Cup.

Oshie retired from hockey following the 2024-25 season. Upon retirement, he has moved back to Minnesota full-time, with his wife, Lauren, and four children, Campbell, Lyla, Leni and Lucy.
