Blackstone competed in her first biathlon in 2003 and captured her first national title five years later in 2008. She is a 2008 graduate of Kent State University in Ohio, where she was an All-Conference honoree in both cross country and track & field. After graduation, she began competing regularly in the northeast United States and has since gone undefeated in domestic competition, dominating her competition on the running course and showing improvement on the shooting range in her second year of competition.. She won her second world championship trials and national title in 2009 after finishing twelfth in both the sprint and pursuit races at the IBU World Championships the previous year.
