The experienced Macartney will be aiming to make his third U.S. Olympic Team, adding veteran depth to the U.S. Men's Ski Team. Though he isn't as strong a contender as Bode Miller or Ted Ligety, Macartney showed vast improvement from Salt Lake City to Torino. Growing up in Washington, Macartney crossed the border to ski at Whistler often, which may give him an edge over the European powers.

Personal

Macartney is the son of volunteer ski patrol parents. Unfortunately, Macartney's most famous moment in skiing was a crash at Kitzbuhel, Austria, on his 30th birthday in 2008 that caused severe head trauma. He slid across the finish line knocked out and, finishing in 33rd place, and was back on the World Cup circuit again 10 months later. Macartney is no stranger to pain; he underwent hip surgery following the 2007 season, suffered a concussion and a fractured tibia in a season-ending 2001 crash and had patella tendon surgery in 2000.

Macartney's hobbies include mountain biking, surfing and eating sushi. He owns a degree in economics from Dartmouth. Macartney is active in local breast cancer programs, including the Susan G. Komen program and the Evergreen Cancer Center.
