In her second year with the Short Track National Racing Program, Chen is one of the youngest members of the 2011 Fall World Cup Team at age 16. Chen’s first took to the ice as a hockey player in her Southern California neighborhood rink, excelling in hockey and track cycling Chen switched to short-track speedskating, when she was inspired by watching Olympians Apolo Anton Ohno and J.R. Celski train at her home rink. Chen made her World Cup debut during the 2010-11 season.

Off the ice, Chen is a junior at Waterford Academy in Salt Lake City. She is also an accomplished cello player and enjoys reading.
