Rebecca is a C7/8 Quadriplegic (complete) and has been disabled since 1993.
Before her injury she worked at a Radiology practice as a Radiologic Technologist specializing in MRI scanning. Up until 2006, she continued to work for the practice from home.
Rebecca has always enjoyed outdoor sports, especially horseback riding. She returned to riding a few years after becoming disabled, and was fortunate enough to ride for several years.
When she could no longer horseback ride she got a bike (hand cycle). Rebecca notes that its definitely not the same as having a horse, but it still allows her to get out and enjoy the fresh air and exercise.
About ten years ago Jan Whitaker got me started with the outrigger canoeing and racing and fell in love with it. Since then Rebecca has raced in New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont and Maryland. She really enjoyes being able to travel to the different race venues and meet fun and interesting people along the way.
Now that Rebecca has recently been introduced to kayaking, she loves it just as much as canoeing. She is very thrilled to be a member of the Team USA, competing in Nova Scotia at the 2009 Worlds.
