Biographical Information
Peter Wolter serves as sighted guide for Jake Adicoff on the U.S. Para Nordic Ski Team, competing together in the visually impaired classification in both biathlon and cross-country skiing. The partnership between Wolter and Adicoff is rooted in a shared community: both grew up in the Sun Valley, Idaho, area training through the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation, and their on-snow relationship predates their competitive partnership by years. Wolter was a freshman in high school when Adicoff was a senior, and they developed a friendship built on countless training sessions together on the same Nordic trails in the Wood River Valley.
Peter Wolter grew up with skiing "in his blood.” His father competed at Montana State and the University of Colorado before moving to Sun Valley to pursue a professional skiing career. Wolter started on the Nordic team in second grade, developing into an elite cross-country skier through the SVSEF Gold Team program, one of the premier Nordic development pipelines in the country.
He went on to compete at Middlebury College, where he earned EISA Rookie of the Year in 2018 and two-time NCAA All-American recognition in 2020 and 2022, a mark of national-level distinction in collegiate Nordic skiing. During his senior year in 2022, he earned the prestigious EISA Classic Bib Leader title and served as team captain. His performance that winter was remarkable: he found a spot on the podium in six of his seven races, including a victory in the 10-kilometer classic at the Dartmouth Carnival where he finished 35 seconds ahead of the runner-up. At the 2022 NCAA National Skiing Championships at Soldier Hollow, Utah, Wolter placed eighth in the men's 10-kilometer classic interval start with a time of 25 minutes, 50.4 seconds. As an economics major with a psychology minor, he balanced rigorous academics with elite-level athletic training. Following graduation in 2022, Wolter joined the SVSEF Cross Country Gold Team, competing in multiple world cup events as an able-bodied skier while training alongside Adicoff in Sun Valley.
Wolter and Adicoff’s partnership officially began in fall 2024 at a race in Canmore, Alberta, marking Wolter's first time serving as Adicoff's guide in competition. The chemistry was immediate, and they traveled to Europe for a winter full of world cup events and multiple world championships.
The 2024-25 season demonstrated that Wolter and Adicoff had formed a formidable partnership. At the 2025 FIS Para Cross-Country World Championships in Toblach, Italy, Adicoff and Wolter won gold in the 20km Freestyle Mass Start, finishing nearly three minutes ahead of the silver medalist. In February 2026, Wolter was officially named to the U.S. Paralympic Team as one of Adicoff's guides (alongside Reid Goble) for the Paralympic Winter Games Milano Cortina 2026.
