What year did you being lifting? End of 2009 was the first time I touched the bar, but started training seriously in fall of 2012.
How did you get involved? Originally, I started through my high school football team getting in touch with Sam Maxwell for strength training.
Favorite Competition Lift? Total (both matter too much to pick one)
Favorite Training Lift? I only Snatch, Clean & Jerk, and Front Squat. I would say each are my favorite at different times— it is cyclical.
Education: Pursuing a double degree in civil engineering and accounting at University of Washington
Personal Goals: Reach my full potential in Olympic lifting, not leaving anything on the table. For now, continue to build on my total in Kazan.
Favorite Food: Grapefruit, but if I could only live with one, then chicken.
Favorite Book: Bible
Favorite TV Show: South Park
Favorite Song: For training, either Bulgarian folk music or Mariachi
Hobbies/Interested outside of Weightlifting: Hiking/ backpacking. I may start rock climbing for fun eventually after I accomplish what I am capable of in lifting.
Most people don’t know that….Before I started lifting, I played an entire season of football with a broken wrist and had to have a titanium screw put in it after the season. After surgery, the doctor said my wrist would never be able to handle even a push up again. While the first six months were fairly painful, lifting has improved its flexibility and functionality tenfold.
