- Began swimming at age 7 when a family friend invited him to join a summer league team
- Was born in Kirovohrad, Ukraine, and moved to the United States at age 2 before settling in Minnesota at age 8
- Overcame balance challenges and the absence of stomach muscles through swimming
- Broke 30 seconds in the 50 free at age 8, celebrating with his brother Robin through a family tradition of passing a rubber chicken between them based on who had the faster time
- Draws inspiration from Paralympic legend Jessica Long, Olympic champion Michael Phelps, his parents and coach Jeff Rodriguez
- Away from the pool, enjoys video games, traveling, biking, exploring new places and watching Big Brother and Survivor
Loves Star Wars and lists the Bible among his favorite books - Music playlist includes Lecrae and Morgan Wallen
- Owns a ball python named Noodles and has undergone 20 surgeries
- Family includes four siblings through adoption and foster care: Dre (24), Robin (16), Ryan (11), and Hannah (8)
- Goals include competing at the Paralympic Games, giving his best effort every race and earning a spot on a Division I swim team
