Quick Facts
Kayla Wheeler began swimming at nine years old. Since 2006, she’s participated in three world championships, the 2011 Parapan American Games and 2014 Pan Pacific Para-Swimming Championship as well as the 2012 Paralympic Trials and 2014 Can-Am Championships in Edmonton. She enjoys reading, movies, skiing, singing, acting and building robots. She is also a member of the University of Washington’s Harry Potter Club. In addition, Wheeler volunteers at a local high school’s robotic team and works with DO-IT, a company that assists people with disabilities to succeed in college and their careers. When she completes her degree, the swimmer aspires to attend law school and eventually find a career as a disability rights lawyer.
