About Kate Bert:

Curls out of: Milwaukee Curling Club

I am a full-time mom to three very active boys, and a full time employee at Kohler Co…which doesn’t leave a lot of bandwidth, but I have made the decision to get back to one of my loves with curling.  Curling has been in my family since I was a toddler, everyone in my family is either currently very active in their respective clubs, or was at some point, and all of us have played competitively; it’s just an addiction none of us can shake!

I was introduced to curling through my parents, most specifically my father.  All my siblings and I learned to curl at the local legion when we were young….no Doritos until we made 2 perfect draws in row!

What hobbies do you have?

I play hockey and I am also learning how to shoot.

What is your earliest curling memory?

Just hanging out at the Otterburn Curling Club watching the men soak their corn brooms in the toilets!

What kind of Training Regimen do you follow?

I do my best to be as active as my schedule allows…I try to incorporate yoga, running, stretching, and strength training.

Any nicknames?

None that can be mentioned J

Curling Strengths?   Weaknesses?

I would like to think that my strengths are my grit and determination….throw some tenacity in there as well; I am a competitor.  My weakness could be the exact same thing…sometimes I lose sight of the enjoyment and the fact that I am doing something I love.

What kind of goals have you set for yourself?

Curling goals that I have set are to learn this year….this is my first year skipping at the level and I am working to learn a whole new way of thinking, I plan on enjoying curling again, and making sure that our team is enjoying our year.

Do others in your family curl?

My brother curls and coaches juniors in Canada, and I have a sister who dabbles in curling.

What do you enjoy most about curling?

I enjoy the grit of the game….the ability to change the course of the game or the outcome with one end; any team can win on any given day.
