Josh O’Neill grew up in North Platte, Nebraska, playing multiple sports. At age 16, he was in a car accident that resulted in paraplegia.
During his rehab from his accident, he watched the documentary, “Murderball," which chronicled the U.S. wheelchair rugby team’s journey to the Paralympic Games Athens 2004. Inspired by the documentary, he tried wheelchair rugby, playing as a community member with the University of Arizona and with his club team, Denver Harlequins.
Josh O’Neill made his debut with the U.S. wheelchair rugby team at the 2022 world championships, winning silver. Two years later, O’Neill made his Paralympic debut at the Paralympic Games Paris 2024, winning another silver with Team USA.
