Biographical Information

Hayley Scamurra showed an interest in playing hockey around age 4, following her older brothers to the rink in their backyard. Her dad, Peter, who played four seasons in the NHL for the Washington Capitals, was her youth coach. At age 7, Haley declared to her youth hockey team that one day she would be an Olympian.

Scamurra played college at Northeastern University and was named the best defensive forward in her conference her senior season. She was drafted by her hometown Buffalo Beauts as the 10th overall pick in the 2016 NWHL Draft and was named the NWHL’s first-ever Rookie of the Year for the 2017-18 season. 

Two years later, Scamurra would make her IIHF World Championship debut for U.S. women’s hockey at the 2019 IIHF World Championships. Scamurra made her Olympic debut at the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022, where the U.S. women’s team won silver. 

Scamurra plays in the PWHL for the Montréal Victoire.
