Two-time Paralympian Hannah Pennington made Vancouver her third appearance at the Paralympic Winter Games.
Pennington was born with Cerebral Palsy and began skiing with the Children's Hospital Handicapped Sports Program in Denver, Colo. at the age of six. She continued to ski with them until she graduated high school and joined the ski team at Fort Lewis College Ski the next winter.
At the start of the 2001-02 season, she made the U.S. Disabled Ski Team and then finished the season as a member of the Paralympic team.
After the 2002 Paralympic Games in Salt Lake, City, Pennington took some time off from skiing for surgery and then quickly worked her way back onto the team for the 2006 Games in Torino, Italy.
After reaching the summit of Mt. Kilimanjaro in the summer of 2007, Pennington kicked off the 2008-09 season with an eye toward improving her World Cup results. A mid-season revelation that she needed surgery threatened to derail her aim, but Pennington pressed forward and ended up on the podium nearly every day at U.S. Championships. She credits her love of the sport for helping her through.
In her spare time, Pennington can be found mountain biking, road biking and spending time with her family - especially her young niece.
