Mallory

Greg Mallory, who took up handcycling and kayaking after being paralyzed in a skiing accident during his final semester of law school, began cross-country skiing to stay in shape during the winter. He began skiing on the World Cup circuit in 2004 and competed in his first Paralympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy in 2006.

Mallory is hard at work on getting back into top form after an illness took him off his game during the 2008 season. Mallory became ill after a trip to the Himalayan region of Bhutan, where he became the first person with a physical disability to kayak down the remote Mangde Chu river. Mallory still competed on the World Cup circuit in 2008, pulling a 14th place finish in the 15k event in Germany and ended the season 18th in the overall standings.

Mallory is a lawyer with the legal firm Schwabe, Williamson and Wyatt, where he works on corporate finance and securities regulation cases. He typically handcycles to work three days a week and paddles or roller-skis to the office on the remaining days. He is the youngest of four in a skiing family. Mallory's father began snowboarding in his 60s, and has continued on into his 70s.
