Dominic Costanzo was born on January 4, 1991 in Richmond Virginia. He graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelor's of Science degree in business. While at VCU, he competed on men's track and field team from 2009-2013, serving as the team captain his junior and senior year. He specialized in the 400-meter dash and helped set the indoor 4x400 meter relay record his sophomore year. He was first introduced to the sport of bobsled,because he was always a fan of winter sports. Following a family trip to Lake Placid, NY, the summer of his junior year in college, he was curious to find out how the current members of the team got into the sport. After doing some research, he found out the USA Bobsled and Skeleton teams hosted open combines in the offseason. He didn't know much about the sport, but he figured it could be a good opportunity to transition into something different following graduation, where he could utilize his speed and strength from running track.
