Craig Vogtsberger

Athlete Bio#

Craig Vogtsberger began riding in sixth grade when his father bought him a 10-speed bike. He would ride up to 60 miles on weekends in bike tours, eventually paving the way to triathlons, time trials and road racing.

While he was serving in the Army National Guard, Vogtsberger was crushed between two Humvees causing TBI and spinal injuries leaving him without control of his left leg and partial control in his left arm.

Despite the setback, Vogtsberger has established a successful cycling career in national and world championships, but one sticks out in particular. In his first year of racing Xterra triathlons, Vogtsberger won the national championship and qualified for world championships.

Vogtsberger describes his favorite part of cycling as mental, “the physical and mental zone I enter and everything ceases to exist, especially pain.”

Vogtsberger, also a retired U.S. Capitol Police Officer, is currently enjoys sporting events and spending time with his family and friends.
