Clayton Brackett grew up in Irvine, California, and suffered a spinal cord injury at two years old. After the injury, he picked up adaptive sports, excelling at wheelchair basketball, describing the experience of the playing sport as giving him: “Biggest smile, wow, this is incredible — didn’t know something like this (adaptive sports) was out here for me."
While playing wheelchair basketball at the University of Illinois, a national powerhouse in the sport, future Team USA teammate Chuck Aoki convinced Brackett to try a new sport, wheelchair rugby, and join a local club.
Within a few years, Brackett made his first national training squad in 2015 and represented the United States at the Parapan American Games Toronto 2015. Brackett was one of the last cuts for the U.S. wheelchair rugby team at the Paralympic Games Rio 2016 and the world championship roster in 2018.
Brackett rejoined the national team in 2023 and made his Paralympic debut at the Paralympic Games Paris 2024, winning a silver medal with Team USA.
Off the court, Brackett enjoys the outdoors and spending time with family and friends. He enjoys woodworking and completing projects with his 3D printer and computer numerical control (CNC) router.
