- A lifelong endurance athlete, CJ began riding and racing bikes in the spring of 2021
- Competed in track and field in middle school, continued to run through high school and collegiately at UC Irvine
- In his first year at UC Irvine, CJ was diagnosed with osteosarcoma (bone cancer) in his left foot which compelled the amputation of the foot below the knee
- After his amputation, CJ continued to run competitively and set records for below-knee amputees
- For the better part of the past decade, he has pursued rock and alpine climbing and is working to become a fully certified rock Climbing guide, where he enjoys working with other Para athletes
- In 2022, a year after his first para-cycling race, CJ was selected for the 2022 final World Cup and World Championship team
- He loves to train and spend long days on his bike
