BIOGRAPHY

All-rounder Chelsea Marshall followed her two older brothers, Cody and Jesse, into ski racing as a kid. A former swimmer, she's become a strong speed skier while maintaining much of her early gate-running talent, leading her to the 2007 NorAm super combined championship and a spot on the World Cup.

UPDATE

In what was to be her first full World Cup season, Marshall was slowed considerably with a back injury mid season that kept her out of the start gate at the 2009 World Championships despite qualifying and being named to the Team. She fought through it to score World Cup downhill points in both Tarvisio and Bansko following the World Champs, but never really got back to full speed. She finished out the season with FIS races on the East Coast and headed out to the U.S. Championships before taking a big step back to start the recovery process. One of the leaders in the next generation of U.S. Ski Team speed, the understated racer will definitely be firing on all cylinders when the women's speed season opens.

FIRST TRACKS

Older brothers Cody and Jesse, who eventually would make the U.S. Ski Team, too, gave Marshall the impetus to try ski racing. She was their shadow as a youngster at Vermont's sprawling (six peaks) Killington resort. "I followed them all around the mountain trying to keep up," she said. She swam in summer because her mother, Barb, coached a local team, but winter was for skiing. She enrolled just up the road at Green Mountain Valley School and was into Super Series racing with the 2002 season. Marshall raced in the 2005 and '06 Junior World Championships.
