After a singles silver medal and a gold medal in women's doubles at the 2007 Parapan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Beth Arnoult looked ahead to 2008 with aspirations of making the medal podium at her first Paralympic Games. Although she did not win, she competed very well.
Arnoult began playing wheelchair tennis in 1996, five years after being paralyzed in an All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) accident. Nine years later, she cracked the top-10 in the world rankings in both singles and doubles.
Arnoult received her bachelor's degree and a teaching certification from Iowa State University in 1988. She has an 11-year-old son, Jacques.
In addition to her own training, Arnoult volunteers at her son's school and conducts wheelchair tennis clinics with Maui County Parks and Recreation. She also enjoys scuba diving, kayaking, Hawaiian Canoe Outrigger paddling, going to movies, reading and scrapbooking.
