Horse:     Poggio II (15-year-old Thoroughbred gelding; owned by Amy Tryon and Mark Hart)

Amy Tryon is no stranger to action and a fast-pace. She spent the majority of her professional career as a firefighter. She retired from the squad in 2006 to focus solely on her horses.

Poggio's story is equally interesting. Tryon found her world-class horse in the local classifieds where he was advertised as a mountain pack horse. Together they led the U.S. Team's effort in 2006 at the World Equestrian Games picking up the Individual bronze medal. Two weeks later she was fifth at the Blenheim CCI*** with Le Samurai.

Tryon has a wonderful string of horse coming up through the ranks, Coal Creek and Leyland are rarely out of the top placings. Coal Creek won the 2007 Florida International CCI** and Leyland won the CCI** at Galway Downs in March of 2006. They both had top placings at the CIC*** at Red Hills Horse Trials in March 2008. Tryon recently imported That's Smart from New Zealand who won the CIC** at Poplar Place in March 2008.

In 2004, Tryon was a member of the U.S. Eventing Team that took home the bronze medal at the Athens Olympic Games where Tryon placed sixth overall. In 2002, Tryon and Poggio II were on the U.S. team that won the gold medal at the Eventing World Championships at the World Equestrian Games in Jerez, Spain. However, the medal came with a price as she had a serious fall at those Games, injuring her back. She made a difficult choice to have risky back surgery and could not work or train for five months; however, Tryon returned with a vengeance to the sport. 

Amy and her husband, Greg, also a firefighter, reside in Redmond, Wash.
