Para Powerlifting at the Parapan Am Games

Para Powerlifting Sport Preview:


Seven of athletes from the U.S. are set to represent Team USA in the Para powerlifting events at the Parapan American Games Santiago 2023.


Powerlifting competition, set for Nov. 18-21, will bring together up to 100 athletes competing in 17 medal events. The 2023 Parapan American Games are crucial for Paralympic Games Paris 2024 qualification for U.S. athletes as competition counts towards the World Para Powerlifting Ranking List. The top eight ranked male and female athletes in each medal event on the World Para Powerlifting Paralympic ranking list as of June 26, 2024 will obtain one qualification slot for Paris 2024.

Qualification and Selection for 2023 Parapan American Games:

 

 The maximum team size per country is 20 (10 men and 10 women), with a maximum of two slots per individual medal event.


The top six ranked male athletes and top four female athletes in each medal event on the World Para Powerlifting Parapan American Santiago 2023 Ranking List as of Aug. 5, 2023 obtain one qualification slot. Qualification slots are allocated to the individual athlete, not the nation. Athletes competing in the mixed team event were selected by the U.S. Paralympics Powerlifting Discretionary Selection Committee from the athletes participating in individual events.


Qualification and Selection for the Paris Games:

The maximum team size per country is 16 (eight men and eight women).


The top eight ranked male and female athletes in each medal event on the World Para Powerlifting Paralympic Ranking List as of June 26, 2024 will obtain one qualification slot (160 athletes will qualify via this method). An additional 20 athletes will be selected by the IPC and World Para Powerlifting for Bipartite Commission Invitation slots.
