John Morgan is a two-time Paralympian and 15-time Paralympic medalist in swimming. He also set 14 world records, including five in the B2 class and nine in the B1 class, throughout his career. Born in San Gabriel, California, Morgan grew up Swimming competitively, even completing a 20-kilometer marathon river swim at the age of 15. However, a training accident left Morgan with two detached retinas, and, over the next two years his eyesight deteriorated until he lost all vision at age 18. Morgan made his Paralympic debut at the Paralympic Games New York 1984, finishing the competition with five gold medals. He returned to Paralympic Games competition after completing his master’s degree at the University of California, Berkeley, winning medals in each of his 10 events at the Paralympic Games Barcelona 1992. Eight of his medals were gold. Morgan’s greatest long-distance Swimming accomplishment was 35 miles of open water competition at an Argentinian marathon, taking nearly eight and a half hours to complete. He was inducted into the U.S. Associated of Blind Athletes Hall of Fame in 2011.
