The 1960 U.S. Olympic Men’s Basketball Team won the gold medal at the Olympic Games Rome 1960. Coached by Pete Newell of the University of California, Berkeley, Golden Bears, the team dominated the competition, winning by an average of 42.4 points per game. They finished the tournament with an 8-0 record and beat Brazil in the gold-medal final, 90-63. Considered by many to be the best amateur basketball team in history, its roster included the likes of Oscar Robinson and Jerry West. Ten team members went on to play in the NBA, and the entire team was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2010.
