The 1956 U.S. Olympic Men's Basketball Team left the Olympic Games Melbourne 1956 with a perfect record of 8-0 and the gold medal. The team, which averaged nearly 100 points per game, was coached by Gerald Tucker and anchored by Bill Russell and K.C. Jones. The U.S. beat each of its opponents by at least 30 points, and defeated the Soviet Union in the gold-medal game, 89-55. After winning the fourth-straight gold medal for the United States, the Americans returned home from the Games and entered a college tournament, which they proceeded to win.
