Breaking To Make Olympic Debut In Paris 2024

B-Boy Jeffro and B-Boy Victor compete in a mock cypher battle at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

After a successful debut at the Summer Youth Olympic Games Buenos Aires 2018, the sport of breaking will feature in the Olympic Games Paris 2024 program. Governed by the World Dance Sport Federation, Team USA will look to send four athletes to Paris 2024 to compete at the inaugural event.

Unlike a fixed scoring system, judging in breaking happens on a comparative level. The breakers are judged on three categories: mind, body and soul. Mind focuses on the artistic side of the dance and how much creativity and personality the athlete brings. Body, judges the technique of the athlete and the variety of moves that they use. The final aspect of scoring, soul, highlights an athlete's musicality and performance.

Each country is allowed to send a maximum of four athletes to Paris 2024 (two per gender). Athletes from the United States will be able to qualify by name if they win either the WDSF World Championships in Belgium in September, or at the Pan American Games Santiago 2023 in November. Athletes that do not win either of these events are eligible to qualify for the Olympic Games through the Olympic Qualifier Series in Spring 2024. Full qualification criteria can be found here
