Biographical Information

Maci Joncich grew up in Henderson, Nevada, and played basketball, soccer and flag football. Joncich tried flag football at age six, becoming the first girl to play in her two older brothers’ Saturday youth flag football league. Joncich looked up to NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning at the time she started playing flag football, noting: “Growing up, I never really had a flag football idol. Not that there weren't amazing women out there playing the sport, but it wasn't marketed. It wasn't known."

In high school, Joncich competed in track and field (focusing on the sprints) and flag football, as Nevada was one of the few states at the time that sanctioned girls’ flag football as a high school varsity sport. Joncich capped off her senior year in high school by leading her team to the Class 4A State Title and being named the Nevada 4A Player of the Year.

Three months after her graduation from high school, Joncich made her debut for U.S. national team at the 2024 IFAF World Championships, helping the U.S. secure its third consecutive gold medal.

Joncich attended the University of Florida after high school and was a member of the Gators' club flag football team as they won back-to-back NIRSA (sponsored club flag football) titles. Before the 2026-27 academic year, Joncich, who has always wanted to see flag football become an NCAA Division I sport, transferred to California Polytechnic State University, the first NCAA Division I school in California to offer women’s flag football as a varsity sport.

Joncich’s advice to the next generation of girls and women who want to play flag football: “Take advantage of every single opportunity that is given to you … My life has been driven by flag football, and it’s gotten me so far. I’m so thankful for it, and I think that it can do the same for a lot of girls and women.”
