Biographical Information

Ashlea Klam grew up in Austin, Texas, excelling in multiple sports like volleyball, track and field, and flag football. Klam first started flag football after her brother, Peyton, played the sport, and her parents, seeing her interest, founded an all-girls Texas Fury flag football program.

In 2023, Klam made her first women’s flag national team roster and the following year won gold at the world championships as the U.S. secured its third consecutive world title. Two years later, at the 2026 IFAF World Championships, Klam lead the team in receptions developing a strong chemistry with 17-year old QB Akemi Higa.

Klam attended Keiser University, where she was a dual-sport athlete competing on the flag football team and on the track and field team throwing shot put and discus. Klam was named the 2026 NAIA Women’s Flag Football Player of the Year and helped lead the Seahawks to three consecutive NAIA title games during her time at the school. Before the 2026-27 academic year, Klam transferred to California Polytechnic State University, the first NCAA Division I school in California to offer women’s flag football as a varsity sport, where she will play on the team with other Team USA teammates.

Klam was featured in the 2024 NFL advertisement that aired during Super Bowl LIX, “NFL Flag 50.” The two-minute commercial was part of the NFL’s campaign to inspire all 50 states to add girls’ flag football as a varsity sport. Klam is bullish on flag football being on the Olympic program for the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028: “Anyone can play flag football. You don't have to be a certain height. You don't have to be a certain speed, a certain age, a certain gender. This sport is for everyone. And being able to have this sport represented at the Olympic level. I think that everyone will see that.”
